On the afternoon of June 19, Professor Gao Naiyun, a renowned domestic expert and doctoral supervisor from Tongji University, delivered an academic lecture titled “Research Advances on Disinfection Byproducts in Drinking Water” in Room 4414 of the Practical Training Building. The lecture was chaired by Professor Zhang Wenqi from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. At the outset, Professor Zhang Wenqi formally introduced Professor Gao Naiyun and extended a warm welcome on behalf of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

During the lecture, Professor Gao Naiyun first addressed the necessity of drinking water disinfection by highlighting the recurring global outbreaks of cholera. He then elaborated on the chemical properties, classification, formation and transformation, toxicity mechanisms, and detection methods of disinfection byproducts. Subsequently, Professor Gao provided an overview of domestic and international research advancements on disinfection byproducts. Integrating practical water treatment applications, he detailed the implementation of various disinfection processes in operational water treatment plants.

Following the lecture, faculty and students actively engaged with Professor Gao in discussions regarding the generation and control of disinfection byproducts, as well as challenges in applying water treatment technologies in real-world scenarios. The session fostered a vibrant atmosphere, with attendees attentively absorbing the lecture content and broadening their academic horizons.
